HUNTING FOR LIFE
When I was job-hunting a few years back, I think I probably ended up meeting with every temporary staffing, creative staffing, and full-time staffing firm in the city of Chicago. I even drove out to the suburbs a few times to meet with other agencies. And I never got a single job out of any of it, not even a temporary one. A lot of the time, they’d just tell me they were presenting me and would try to sell me and then I’d never hear from them again. Other times, they would tell me they’d keep me on file, but that I didn’t have enough experience to really go anywhere, which would make me wonder why they had asked me to come out to meet in the first place. And it was yet another time I wondered again and again how I’m supposed to get experience if I don’t get hired in the first place. Besides, it’s a staffing agency’s job to get you a job. When they fail at that, how does that say about them? One recruiter even told me he wouldn’t send me on a job interview because I wasn’t professional enough. I didn’t sit up straight enough and all that. He was honest, but, again, why did he waste my time? All I ever got was put through a run-around with these people.
