SPORTS CLOTHING

My parents used to buy me a lot of sports clothing.  One Christmas, I even got a Los Angeles Angels baseball jersey despite not liking baseball nor was I living in Los Angeles.  Given I was young and had no money, I wore the jersey and the sweatpants and the baseball caps I was given since I did need to wear clothes.  Then the problem arose at my high school when the dean of discipline (because a principal just wasn’t enough) started thinking I and a lot of other teens were either part of a gang or just wearing gang colors because we thought it was “cool.”  I had learned a few years earlier in DARE class that since police had caught on to gangs wearing leather jackets with the gang’s name on them that they now wore different colored sports clothes.  For example, the kings wore the apparel of the Los Angeles Kings.  The dean even had this book that supposedly explained what all the gangs’ colors were and had diagrams that showed what sort of gestures they used to signal each other.  Not even my parents coming in for meetings with him knocked any sense into him.  Some people just never learn.
